Welcome to The Good Wool Shop

Stop press: The Good Wool Shop at Derbyshire’s will be closing permanently on 18 February 2017

We will be continuing with events and activities – see blog and other pages for details

The Good Wool Shop opened in Formby in March 2015 as a haven for natural yarn lovers in Liverpool and Merseyside. We specialised in yarns spun from sheep and alpaca fleece, silk and cotton fibres, wool shorn from British sheep and spun in Britain, natural fibres blended with synthetics and familiar brands of man made yarns. Alongside the yarns you could find patterns on paper and help finding millions more online. We stocked luxury and budget knitting needles and crochet hooks, sewing thread and needles and other essentials and a bright and beautiful selection of ribbons and buttons.

To help our customers to make the most of all we sell, we organised classes for beginners in knitting and crochet, with workshops in trickier techniques for those already skilled with hook and needle. And because knitting and crochet are such wonderfully sociable crafts, we started up informal drop-in knit/crochet and natter sessions too.

Sadly like so many other small enterprises, the enthusiasm of our staff and customers was not enough to pay the bills and we closed the shop doors on 18 Feb 2017.  However the Good Wool Shop identity lives on in our groups, classes and events, and in a personalised service to help you locate the yarn and equipment you need.
